THE EFFECT OF USING JUST A MINUTE GAME TECHNIQUE ON THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING FLUENCY
Abstract
Just A Minute Game is a game to improve oral language fluency, to improve pronunciation, to stress careful listening, to practice quick, logical thinking, to practice speaking in front of a group. This research aims find out the effect on students’ speaking fluency by using this Just A Minute Game. Group A and group C of English department’s sixth semester of Nommensen HKBP University Medan were chosen as the sample of this study with total number 20 students. The experimental and control class employed pre-test and post-test. These tests provided in the form of speaking tests. The data of the tests were calculated by using t-test formula. The result showed that the post-test score was higher than the pre-test. The finding showed that there was an effect significantly on the students’ speaking fluency performance after undertaking treatments. There were an enhencement of the students’ number of score. Some students spoke confidently and able to spoke fluently ; the students were interested in scrambling the time to spoke and tried to expressed their utterences directly when the researcher applied Just A Minute Game Technique. The mean score of experimental class range from pre-test and post-test were 45,65 and 62,5. From control class’ pretest, the mean score was 45 while for the post-test is 50,687. Thus, Jus A Minute Game Technique can be used as one of the alternative technique in teaching English speaking skill especially for speaking fluency.
