AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL COHESION ERROR IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA SWASTA MULIA PRATAMA MEDAN
Abstract
This study deals with Analysis of Grammatical Cohesion Error of Narrative Test in Students’ writing to find out the the most dominant types of Grammatical Cohesion in writing narrative text. The objective of the study is to find out the most dominat types of grammatical cohesion in writing narrative text. The research design which was used in this research is descriptive quatitative research. There were 10 students was used as the object who came from grade XI IPS of 2019/2020 academic year. The instrument of this research test namely writing test, writing narrative text. The students were assigned to write a narrative test. The techniques of colleting the data in this research were asking the students to find out the errors. The data were analyzed by collecting the data from students worksheet then checking the students worksheet to find the errors. After that, identifying the students grammatical cohesion errors underlining every error from students writing test, Next, classifying the types of error based on the types of grammatical cohesion. After getting the result, the writer found that the student made the error of grammatical cohesion in reference dominantly. It could be seen from this data, where in the first there position there references with 19% then in the second position in conjuction with 28% and it is followed by ellipsis with 36% is in the third position and the less is substitution 17%.
