An Analysis of Grammatical errors in translating a text from Indonesian Into English Made by the fourth students of Nommense Hkbp University.
Abstract
This thesis a study about analysis about an analysis of grammatical errors in translating text from Indonesia into English of the fourth students of Nommensen Hkbp University. It aims at answering the following questions: 1) What are the types of grammatical errors made by students of the fourth students of Nommensen Hkbp University. The objectives of the study are as follows: 1) to find out the types of grammatical errors occurring in translation made by the fourth students of Nommensen Hkbp University. The method applied in this study was descriptive qualitative method and the instrument used was translated text. The writer prepares a topic of descriptive text for the students and then asked the students to translate the text from Indonesian into English. The time allocation was 60 minutes. There were 15 students taken from one group/class as the sample of the study. The result of the analysis showed that the errors committed by the the fourth students of Nommensen Hkbp University are substitution is 35 (63.63%), omission is 15 (27.28%), addition is 4 (7.28%) and reordering is 1 (100%). The total numbers of error is 55errors. The most frequent errors is substitution. The difficulties area faced by the students is Using past tense. Based on the result of the study, the following is the suggestion for the teacher: the teacher should teach the students how to translate the text and give the students chance to practice. The practices should be focused on grammar especially in using tenses, verb, article, auxilary verb, noun phrase and pronoun.
