Morphological Errors Analysis on Descriptive Writing of the Second Semester English Department Students at Universitas HKBP Nommensen in Medan
Abstract
This thesis focused on finding out the word classes of morphological error on descriptive writing of the second semester at Universitas HKBP Nommensen in Medan. This research was conducted in English Department students group A. They consist 34 students. The instrument of collecting the data was writing test. This research was done in English Department of Universitas HKBP Nommensen in Medan in academic 2018/2019. The research design was qualitative method. Qualitative method was to develop descriptions to present these descriptions and themes that convsey multiple perspectives from participants and detailed descriptions of the setting or individuals. The writer used theory of James Carl (1998:154). There are four word classes of morphological errors namely, Noun morphological errors, verb morphological errors, adjecyive morphological error, and adverb morphological errors. In analyzing the data, the result showed that students made errors in morphological an descriptive writing. The result of qualitative data showed that the total number of errors in morphological descriptive writing was 154. They were 52 noun morphological errors i.e, 38%, 91 verb morphological errors i.e, 59%, 7 adjective morphological i.e, 4,6% and 4 adverb morphological i.e, 2.6%. The dominant word classes of morphological errors were verb with errors are 91 i.e, 59%. Based on the explanation above, the students was confused about verb morphological errors. So, they made the errors. English Department students was advised to know the types of errors in morphology, so that they can use the correct morphology when they write descriptive text. It was also recommended that English Language Lecturers to know the word classes of morphological errors, so that students can be distinguished between the used of morphology when they wrote descriptive text.
