Improving The Ability of Writing Narrative Text by Using Genre- Based Approach of tenth Grade Students at SMK Negeri 1 Medan
Abstract
The objective of the study is to find out whether the Genre – based Approach writing is one of the English skills that should be mastered by the English as foreign language students. It is not an easy task for the English teachers to teach writing to the EFL students, as it requires the English teachers to consider what approach they are going to apply in classroom. One of the approaches that is suggested by the Ministry of Education is genre-based approach. The data of research method used descriptive quantitative. The use descriptive quantitative was used to improving of the ability of writing narrative text of tenth grade students at SMK N 1 Medan. The mean of score students namely pre-test 63.96 and the mean of post -test 79.06. it means that, the writer can conclude that it is effective to teach writing narrative text which indicate the improvement in teaching learning process Based on these data, the research concludes that teaching writing narrative text through genre-based approach significantly can improve students writing skill. It included how the teacher delivers feedback to the students, and how the teacher gives score to the students. The research result showed that the teacher implemented the four stages of Genre-based approach. Those are Building Knowledge of the Field, Modeling of the text, joint Construction of the Text and Independent Construction of the Text. The finding was highly expected teaching strategy to the different types of genre.
