Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Using Word Claps Game at Second Year of SMA Negeri 8 Medan
Abstract
The objective of this study is to find out whether Word Claps Game improves the students’ mastery on vocabulary. The subject of this research was second year students at SMA Negeri 8 Medan. There are two kinds of data collected during the study, quantitative and qualitative data. The instrument for collecting the quantitative data is vocabulary test while questionnare sheet and observation sheets for qualitative data. Based on qualitative data, the students are active and enthusiastic to follow the teaching learning process. The quantitative data is found that students’ ability in vocabulary mastery improved from the pre-test to post- test in cycle I and cycle II. It can be seen from the students’ mean score and percentage of students who got ≥ 75. The mean of students’ score and percentage of students who got ≥ 75 for pre-test is 56,45 and for cycle I is 71,8 and for cycle II is 85,62. From this result can be seen that there was improvement, it means that the students had comprehend with the treatment and started to active in master vocabulary. In the third test, the lowest score was 46 and the high one was 100. It could be said that the last test was good improvement because many students got high score in test III and they could more active and have good motivation in mastering vocabulary than before. The qualitative data is found that students’ enthusiastic to study vocabulary by using Word Claps Game. It can be seen from the students’ observation sheets. The writer kept the observation sheet in cycle I and cycle II. In the cycle I, the students were not serious when learning process, but in the cycle II, the students were serious, active and enthusiastic in learning process.The result indicates that there was an improvement on the students’ ability in mastering vocabulary by using Word Claps Game. The using of Word Claps Game helped students easier in learning vocabulary.
