Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension by Using Making Connections Strategy at Eleventh Grade of Smk Negeri 5 Medan.
Abstract
This study is attempts to improve students’ reading comprehension by using Making Connections strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject in this research was class XI DPIB 2 SMK Ngeri 5 Medan which consisted of 25 students. The research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisted of two meetings. The instrument for collecting data were quantitative data which is taken from students’ reading comprehension test and qualitative data which is taken from observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and diary notes. The data of the students’ score is increases from the pre-test to test cycle II. On the pre-test, the mean of the students is 43,4 while the mean of post-test cycle I is 71 and the mean of post-test cycle II is 83.2. In line with the data, it is found that there is an improvement of students’ reading comprehension by using making connections strategy. Based on questionnaire sheet it was found that the students were active and enthusiastic in learning reading by using Making connections strategy.
