An Analysis Teachers’ Strategy in Overcoming Students Difficulties in Writing Descriptive Text at First Grade students of SMK Swasta Jambi Medan
Abstract
This study attempts to know teachers’ strategy in overcoming students difficulties in writing descriptive text at first grade students of SMK Swasta Jambi Medan. The objective of this study is to know the types of strategies in writing descripive text by the English teacher. There are five types of strategies that teacher used in teaching deascriptive text such as individual strategy, question strategy, grouping strategy, cooperative strategy, and discussion strategy. this study used descriptive qualitative. The instruments of this study are observation, questionnaire and interview. The subject of this study was the one of English teacher at first grade of SMK Swasta Jambi Medan. The technique of analysing the data such as transcribed teacher utterances containing instruction to do activities, underlined the teacher utterances containing the strategies, classified the strategies based on the utterances and interpreted the strategies that the teacher used. In collecting the data, the writer record the students utterances while in teaching process by camera. The total utterances of teaching writing descriptive text that teacher used in teaching and learning process, they are individual strategy 5 utterances (23,80%), question strategy 9 utterances (42,85%), grouping strategy 3 utterances (14,28%), cooperative strategy utterances (14,28%), discussion strategy 1 utterance (4,76%). The total utterances in teaching descriptive text 21 (99,97%) utterances, and the dominant strategy used by the teacher was question strategy
