Improving Students’ ability in Mastering Idioms Through GC (Guessing from the context) Strategy. HKBP Nommensen University
Abstract
This study is attempted to Improve the students’ ability in mastering through GC (Guessing frm the context) strategy. The aim of this research is to improve the students’ ability in mastering idioms through Gc strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research is XII grade in SMK N 5 MEDAN which consits of 27 students. The research design was conducted in two cycles, cycle I consits of four meetings and cycle II consists of two meetings. The instrument used for collecting data was multiple choice.The qualitative was done from the questionnaire sheet. The result of improving students’ ability in mastering idioms shown that the students’ score in pre-test test was 50,92% the score in cycle I test was 69,81% and The students score in cyle II test was 80,74%. The students’ score showen the treatmentwas succesful because the result of cycle II test was higher than cycle I. Based on the questionnaire sheet the students were also interested to use this strategy and helped them in learning process. The students were more active, and eunthusiastic during the teaching learning process in the cycle II than cycle I. The result of the research shown Gc strategy improved significantly the students’ ability in masteing idioms.
