Code mixing and code switching used in conversation by x grade students for SMA N 2 KABANJAHE
Abstract
This study attempts to discuss about code mixing and code switching used in conversation by X grade students for SMAN 2 Kabanjahe. The objective of this study to identify the dominant code mixing and code switching that used in conversation.
The study used descriptive qualitative method. The result of the study shows they are the students use five types of code switching and use two types of code mixing. The total number of code switching and code mixing 39 cases. In types of code switching there are 8 number of Tag switching (20.5 %), 13 number of Intersential switching (33.3 %), 6 number of Intra sentential switching (15.4 %), 1 number of situational switching( 2.6 %), 1 number of metaphorical switching (2.6 %), while in types of code mixing there are 7 number of intra sentential mixing (17.9 %), 3 number of extra sentential mixing (7.7 %)
The dominant code mxing and codo switching is 13 number of inter-sentential switching (33.3 %), the second is 8 number of tag switching (20.5 %), the third 7 number of intra-sentential mixing (17.9 %), the fourth 6 number of intra-sentential switching (15.4 %), the fifth 3 number of extra-setential mixing (7.7 %), the sixth 1 number of metaphorical switching (2.6 %), and the lasts is 1 number of situational switching( 2.6 %),.
