The Student’s Error Analysis in Using Punctuation Marks in Writing Narrative by the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK Negeri 5 Medan
Abstract
The objectives of the research were to know the kinds of errors and the causes of error in using punctuation mark by the second grade students of SMK Negeri 5 Medan. The method used in this study was qualitative method in descriptive analysis, by using formula P = F/N. It was conducted as the following procedures: collecting data from the students, classifying them in to the grammatical error based Kortman and Mc. Donalad, analysis data, describing errors, interpreting data and the last concluding the result of the study. The population and sample of that research were by the XI TPM-2 students of SMK Negeri 5 Medan with 26 students.
The research found that the most common error which most students made period by omission, addition, misinformation, misordering, and blends. 43,26%, comma 40,27%, question mark 14,36%, quotation mark 7,63%, and exclamation point 66,66%. It can be concluded that most of the second grade Students of SMK Negeri 5 Medan in misinformation in using punctuation mark. The students reason made error because they did not known the limitation and the role of the structure and context.
