An Analysis of Implicature Found in The Conversation Betweeen Tika Romauli Siregar with her prospective mother-in-law Through WhatsApp (WA) Chats.

Abstract

This research deals with the implicature (based on the Grice’s theory) in the Conversation betweeen Tika Romauli Siregar with her prospective mother-in-law through WhatsApp (WA) chats. The sample of research were taken from the Whatsapp (WA) chats of Tika Romauli Siregar with her prospective mother-in-law. The purposes of this research are to know the types of implicature used in the conversation betweeen Tika Romauli Siregar with her prospective mother-in-law and also the most dominant implicature used there. This research used descriptive qualitative method. There are three types of implicature that found in the conversation betweeen Tika Romauli Siregar with her prospective mother-in-law : generalized conversational implicature, particularized conversational implicature and conventional implicature. The finding of this research of the types of implicature are Generalized conversational implicature is 31.25% , Particularized conversational implicature is 56.25% and Conventional implicature is 12.50%. Particularized conversational implicature is the most dominant in the conversation between Tika Romauli Siregar with her prospective mother-in-law through WhatsApp (WA) chats. The writer suggests for English Department Students to dig up knowledge of Linguistics and Culture and the Researchers to do another research of implicatures from different perspective
