Abstract
This thesis is about The Effect of Compare Diagnose Operate Strategy in teaching Writing Narrative Text. The objective of the study is to find out whether or not CDO (Compare Diagnose Operate) Strategy affect the students’ writing narrative text. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the second year students of SMP Swasta HKBP Sidorame Medan. The researcher took VII 1 which consists of 30 students as control group but the representatives are 10 students used conventional strategy and VII 2 which consists of 30 students but the representatives are 10 students as experimental group used CDO (Compare Diagnose Operate Strategy). The population of this research was 60 students which consist of two parallel classes. The researcher took both groups as total sampling to see The Effect of Compare Diagnose Operate Strategy in teaching writing narrative text. The data were taken by giving essay test and kind of the test is writing narrative text. The tests were divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group. The mean score of pre-test in experimental group is 60 and the post-test is 84. The mean score of pre-test in control group is 39 and the post test is 56. It is concluded that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table at the level of significance p = 0.05 (2.61>1.725). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that Compare Diagnose Operate Strategy can be used as teaching strategy alternative to enrich students’ writing mastery especially in writing narrative text at the second year students of Junior High School
