    Abstract
This study aims to determine the type of code mixing and the dominant type used by the characters in the novel "Annoying Boy" by Inesia Pratiwi. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive design. In analyzing the data, the writer reads the novel "annoying boy", underlines the code-mixed utterances of the characters in the novel and analyzes the data based on Hoffman's theory (1991:112). In this study, the authors found that there were 85 data that had been classified into three types of code mixing. They were Intra-sentential code mixing, Intra-lexical code mixing and Involving a change of pronunciation which is Intra-sentential code mixing occurred 67 times equal to 78.82% , intra-lexical code mixing occurred 15 times equal to 17.65% and involving a change of pronunciation occurred 3 times equal to 3.53%. Based on the results of the study, the dominant code mixing used by the characters in the Novel "Annoying Boy" by Inesia Pratiwi is the intra-sentential type of code mixing with a total of 67 (78.82%). This is because the characters communicate by entering a foreign language in their conversations and combining several words or phrases in one sentence to highlight a point in a conversation or sentence that allows the listener to understand the intended message. The writer suggests conducting further studies regarding code mixing on the use of various media platforms, such as television or YouTube and are advised to conduct research with different focus areas and data sources.
