AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF USING PUNCTUATION IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT OF TENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA GAJAH MADA MEDAN
Abstract
This thesis is about error analysis of the punctuation in students writing narrative text. The objective of the study was to find out the types of errors in the use punctuation in writing narrative text at tenth grade SMA Gajah Mada Medan. The method used in this study was Descriptive Qualitattive. Finally, the result of the study showed that there were four types error found in the students writing test that is omission, misordering, addition and misformation. The reseacher analyzed the data as the following procedures: collecting data from the students, classifiying the students error and calculating the percentage of the students error. The total of paticipants was 25 students. The finding of this study were 126 error of the punctuation in students writing; fourty eight error of omission (38,19%); thirty one error of addition (24,60%); twenty six error of misordering (20,63%); and twenty one error of misformation (6,67%). The students made the error because the students did not know the understand and still confused when they were writen the punctuation and the role of the structure and context.
