THE EFFECT OF LISTEN-READ-DISCUSS (LRD) STRATEGY ON STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION AT CLASS X SMA HKBP SIDORAME MEDAN
Abstract
The study deals with the effect of the Listen-Read-Discuss strategy on the students achievement in reading comprehension. This study used an experimental quantitative design. The population of this study was grade X students of SMA HKBP Sidorame Medan, with the total number of students being 40. As a sample, each class consisted of 20 students. The students were divided into two groups, namely the experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught using the Listen-Read-Discuss strategy, while the control group was taught using the conventional method. The instrument used to collect the data was a multiple- choice test, which was then divided into a pre-test and a post-test. The data were analyzed using the t-test formula. The result of the analysis showed that tobserved is higher than ttable (4,65 > 2.0) at the level of significance of 0,05 and the degree of freedom (df) of 38, which means that there is a significant effect of using the Listen-Read-Discuss strategy on the students achievement in reading comprehension.
