AN ANALYSIS OF IMPERATIVE SENTENCES IN CRUELLA MOVIE
Abstract
This research aimed to analyse what types of imperative sentences function and the most dominant type of imperative sentence function used in the Cruella movie. The objectives of this research are to identify the types of imperative sentences that function and determine the most dominant types of imperative sentences in the Cruella movie. In this research, the writer applies a descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, the writer uses a video and a movie script as instruments to support research data collection techniques with observation and documentation techniques. The results of this research are 66 imperative sentences in 116 minutes (01:09 - 01:57:42) of the Cruella movie. The 66 data are divided and grouped into nine types of imperative sentences, with the final result: Twenty- four or 36,3% Orders and Requests Imperative Sentences, nine or 13,6% Invitations Imperative Sentences, nine or 13.6% Directions Imperative Sentences, seven or 10.6% Advice Imperative Sentence, five or 7.5% Warning Imperative Sentence, five or 7.5% Prohibitions and Public Notices Imperative Sentence, three or 4.5% Instructions Imperative Sentence, two or 3,0% Offers Imperative Sentence, and finally two or 3,0% Expressing Rudeness Imperative Sentence. The writer suggests that English students must comprehend the meaning behind imperatives, whether found in literature or daily conversation. The writer hopes that future researchers will be able to research imperative sentences and will be able to expand this research by including every aspect that is related to imperative sentences.
