AN ANALYSIS OF USING DERIVATIONAL MORPHEMES IN SELECTED NEWS ON THE JAKARTA POST NEWSPAPER
Abstract
This study deals with the analysis of using derivational morphemes in selecting news on the Jakarta post newspaper. The objective of the study was to classify the types of derivational morphemes affixes and the process of derivational morphemes affixes that are used in selected news on the Jakarta post newspaper. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The writer searched and selected 5 news to get the data. The instrument for collecting data was observation and document analysis. The writer found there were 107 data for derivational affixes. The finding of data analysis showed that the types of derivational affixes used in “on the Jakarta post newspaper “ were prefixes, suffixes, and circumfixes. The result showed the total number of each type where prefixes are 4,70%, suffixes
89,70%, and circumfixes 5,60%. The dominant type was suffixes 89,70%. The researcher found 9 processes of forming derivational affixes 17 formations noun to adjective, 48 formations verb to noun, 4 formations noun to verb, 11 formations adjective to a noun, 2 formations adjective to verb, 15 formations adjective to an adverb, 6 formations noun to noun, 2 formations verb to verb, and 2 formations adjective to adjective. The most dominant was process formation verb to noun 48. The process of forming derivational affixes that did not changed word class and word meaning were verb to verb, noun to noun, and adjective to adjective. While the processes that changed word classes and word meanings were nouns to adjectives, verbs to nouns, nouns to verbs, adjectives to nouns, adjectives to verbs, and adjectives to adverbs. The benefits of this research make reader easier understand the structure of a word, so that not be confused in determining the meaning of words used in various context especially in the Jakarta post newspaper.
