dc.description.abstractThis study aims to Analyze the politeness strategies on Basuki Purnama Tjahaja’s Conversation as found in Youtube. The data presented are 125 unterances/statements. The data were analyzed based on Politeness strategies by Brown and Levinson (1987). This study is used descriptive qualitative. The types of Politeness found in BTP’s conversation are, 1.Bald on record 2,4%, 2. Positive Politeness 74,4%, 3. Negative Politeness 17,6%, and 4. Off record 5,6%. Among the four types of politenss strategies, Positive Politeness has the most dominant found in BTP”s conversation. The findings shows that Basuki Tjahaja Purnama used positive politeness with avoiding agreement, seeking agreement, using in group identity Markers, including Both of the speaker and the hearer in the activity, being optimistic and etc. The realizations of Politeness strategies in BTP”s conversation is by using/applied the sub-strategies every types of politeness strategies, they are Bald On record (an emergency,command,alerting or warning hearers), Positive Politeness (Noticing and attending to the hearer,exaggeration, Seeking agreement, being optimistic and etc), Negative Politeness (Being Indirect, Being Pessimistic, apologizing, and etc) and Off Record (Giving Hints, Giving association clues,being ironic, using metaphora and etc).en_US
