dc.description.abstractEvery textbook must have types of genre that are suitable to syllabus of 2013 curriculum and should provide description of genre reading text according to the conformity of its characteristics so the English written text learning can be achieved optimally. Therefore, an analysis of textbooks is needed to determine whether the books that students use are appropriate or not. This study focuses on analysing genre in textbooks and uses a descriptive qualitative research method to analyze and find the types of genre in the English reading textbook for Junior High School grade IX entitled “Think Globally Act Locally" and "Bright". There are two aim of this research. The first aim of this research is to find out what types of genre are used in the English reading textbooks; the second is to see the dominant types of genre as well as to conclude the shortcomings and strength of English each textbooks. Data analysis from this research shows that there are five types of genre used in the textbooks such as narrative, procedure, report, explanation and description, and the dominant genre used are report and narrative. As a result, the researcher concludes that the five genres of reading text are suitable for junior high school students but the characteristics (social function, generic structure, langugae features) do not fulfill the conformity level.en_US
