dc.description.abstract | The aims of this research are to find out the potential of online learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic and to find out the drawbacks of online learning during the Covid-
19 Pandemic. The research used qualitative descriptive. The sources of data in this research are the eighth grade students at SMP Gajah Mada Medan. The data are all the result of participants’ replies in Google Form. The collecting data was done through questionnaire from google form and interview. The findings reveal that there is some potential in online learning, they are; (a) freedom to choose learning media, (b) student learning is not limited, (c) online learning is cheaper than traditional learning (d) the occurrence of stimulus to students, (e) Facilitate the convenience of communicating. On the other hand, the drawbacks are: (a) unstable network, (b) lack of understanding material, (c) Multitasking and no seriousness, (d) difficult to communicate, (e) physical and mental disorder, (f) exorbitant study fees. In other hand, there are six solutions to overcome the drawbacks of online learning for English teacher. The solutions are: (a) Making short English learning videos, (b) providing teaching materials before learning takes place, (c) Providing ice breaking, (d) Advising students to move to a place with a stronger signal, (e) directing students to study in front a minimum screen of 15-30cm, (f) report to the principal to register students to get free internet quota assistance from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Even so, it is hoped that with this, there will be other researcher who will raise the title of this research but with different schools and different coverage areas. | en_US |
