dc.description.abstractThis thesis is about“An Analysis of Students’ Errors in Pronouncing English Consonants (A Case Study of the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Sumbul)”.The objective of the study was to identify the types of consonant are mispronounced by the student and to find out the dominant types of errors consonant that prounced by the students This study was conducted by applying Descriptive Qualitative research. The writer recorded 14 students’ pronunciation to get the data. The instrument of collecting data was Observation. The data were obtained on students’ pronunciation. The writer found there were 77 error in pronuncing English consonant. The finding of data analysis showed that types of English consonant was b/ /w/ /v/ /z/ /ʤ/ /g/. The result showed the total number of each error prounciation The types consonant are mispronounced by students at SMA N 1 Sumbul were found 77 mispronounced by student, they are / b/ /w/ /v/ /z/ /ʤ/ /g/. The total number of the errors was b=20.8%, w=9.09%, v=19.48%, g=12.98%, ʤ=27.27%, z=10.38%. The most dominant type of consonant errors in pronuncing is ʤ with the highest frequency and percentage 27.27%. The benefits of this research for state and nation especially for students and English teachers are this research can be used as a source for teaching phonology material, student’s sources in learning more about phonology and pronunciation and for the next researcher especially English consonant although it is no longer researching students’ error in pronuncing English consonant but can be a added sources especially English consonant / b/ /w/ /v/ /z/ /ʤ/ /g/.en_US
