dc.description.abstractThe writer discusses about the figurative language in song lyrics by Jamie Miller. The aims of this study is to find out the types of figurative language in Jamie Miller song lyric. The writer applied Descriptive Qualitative Research. The data are taken from four song lyrics by Jamie Miller, they are: Here's your perfect, Hold You 'Til We‟re Old, City That Never Sleeps, and Onto Something. The writer takes the song lyrics as the data source from website. The data is the song lyrics underlined that contained of the figurative language. The writer analyzes 9 the types of figurative language in 4 song lyrics by Jamie Miller, namely: Simile, Metaphor, Metonymy, Personifications, Hyperbole, Symbol, Allegory, Irony, and Understatement. The writer found 33 underlined song lyrics in 4 song by Jamie Miller that contained of the figurative language as the data of the study, namely: Metaphor 9 song lyrics, simile 3 song lyrics, hyperbole 5 song lyrics, metonymy 3 song lyrics, irony 5 song lyrics, personification 3 song lyrics, allegory 1 song lyrics, symbol 2 song lyrics, understatement 1 song lyric. After analyzing the data, the writer found some conclusions to answer all of the research questions in below. Figurative language is one part of semantics that use as a tool or a way of showing mind through a special language that shows the soul and characteristic of language user, The source of the data is the studio album of Jamie Miller that released on April 2020.in this case, the figurative language has an important position in linguistic studies, especially in literature, such as a poem, novels, song lyrics, etc. Based on the result of the study the writer gives some suggestions forthe students of the English department, For the english teachers, for the next writers.en_US
