dc.description.abstractThis thesis about the effect of using comics on students’ vocabulary achievement. The objective of the study is to find out whether using comics affects students’ vocabulary achievement. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the second grade students of SMAN 1 Silima Punggapungga. The researcher took XI-MIA 1 which consist of 30 students as experimental group used comics media and XI-MIS 1 which consist 30 students as control group used conventional method or without comics media. The population of this research was 60 students which consist of two parallel classes. The research took both groups as total sampling to see the effect of using comics media on students’ vocabulary achievement. The data were taken by giving vocabulary test which consist of multiple choice, matching words and synonym. The test were divided into two test: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group. The mean score of pre-test in experimental group is 53 and the post-test 91. The mean score of pre-test in control group is 55 and the post-test is 81. It is concluded that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result that t-calculated ≥ t-table at the level of significance p = 0.05 (4.7≥2.000). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that comics media can be used as teaching strategy alternative to enrich students’ vocabulary achievement. It is suggested that teachers of English subject apply comics media as an alternative teaching technique into students vocabulary achievement at the second grade students of senior high school.en_US
