dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of this research is to investigate the speaking skill of the students at SMP Gajah Mada and to know whether the application of interactive multimedia could help students learning in speaking. The writer tried to attest that the application of interactive multimedia as an appropriate teaching media to improve students’ speaking skill. The research design of this research was classroom action research (CAR) which was done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The instrument that used in this research was speaking test and observation. The subject of this study was 20 students of eight grade in SMP Gajah Mada. In collecting the data, the writer used test (pre- test, post-test I and post-test 2) and interview. The result of this study showed that the application of interactive multimedia has positive result in improving students’ speaking. It can be proven by the students’ average score of pre-test to post-test cycle 1 and cycle 2. The average score in the pretest was 65.2 which reached 20% students who could pass the KKM, in the post test cycle 1 the mean of students score was 75,4 which reach 60% students who could pass the KKM, and in test cycle 2 the mean of students score was 85,3 which reach students who could pass the KKM 90%. The writer suggested that the application of interactive multimedia is worth to be explored in teaching other skill in English, such as listening, reading, and writing.en_US
