dc.description.abstractThis research focused on finding out the effect of applying Tumblr application on students’ writing ability. The objective of the study is to find out whether or not Tumblr Application with using Conventional teaching method affect on students achievement in writing argumentative essay. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the third grade students at SMA YAPIM Medan. The writer took 12 IPA-1 which consists of 10 students as experimental class with used Tumblr application with conventional teaching method and 12 IPA-3 which consists of 10 students as control group used paper and used conventional method. The population of this study was 20 students which consist of 8 classes. The writer took two classes as random sampling to see the effect of using Tumblr application in teaching writing. The data were taken by giving writing argumentative essay. The tests were divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control class. The mean score of pre-test in experimental class is 53.9 and the post-test is 62.5. The mean score of pre-test in control group is 52.5 and the post- test is 58.8. It is conducted that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result that t-calculated is lower than t-table as the level of significance p = 0.05 (5.47 is higher than 1.734). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. For the English Department Students, this media is very suitable and interactive for writing media, the students will feel the different nuances of writing like writing a blog on internet. For the English teacher, the teacher can use Tumblr application as a writing media so that the students don’t feel bored (giving a new nuance) when writing. For the other researchers, if the researchers want to use this media, so the researchers must pay aspects like students’ motivation and access internet to make fun learning. Some of the short comings of this application such as needing internet connection, gadget like phone, computer, or laptop. To apply this application, the researcher must pay the condition of the school environment, students motivation, and the economic condition of students It is suggested that teachers of English subject to apply Tumblr application as a media and using teaching conventional method significantly affect writing ability at twelve grade students of Senior High School.en_US
