dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled Taboo Language Analysis On Instagram Found on Gisel's Cases Commentary. This study aims to determine the types of taboo language analysis and the taboo language functions used by Instagram users in Gisela Anastasia's comment page. This research is very important and interesting because it raises social media Instagram and examines taboo language . This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach and the data is taken from comments on Gisela Anastasia's Instagram, using the theory Timothy Jay to determine the types and functions of taboo language analysis. The results showed that there were 245 taboo comments found from the November and December 2020 posts about taboo language. The research findings were then classified based on 10 types, the writer found 9 types of taboo used incommentary of gisel’s Instagram; Cursing, profanity, blasphemy, taboo, obscenity, vulgarity, slang, epithet, insult and slur. The results show that Gisela Anastasia's Instagram get many followers who has 34 million followers on Instagram. The most dominant types of taboo words were insults and slurs (38,37%), obscenity (20,41%), Epithets (16,33%), slang (7,75%), vulgarity (6,53%), blasphemy (6,12%), cursing (2,45%) , Profanity (1,22%), taboo (0,82%). The most dominant function of taboo words is to show contemt (73,47%), to be provocative (18,78%), to draw attention to oneself (5,71%), to mock authority (2,04%).en_US
