dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted to find out metaphor in the song lyrics of Westlife. This study used the figurative language approach. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The method of this research is used qualitative analysis. The research question was answered in analytical description. The concept of metaphorical expressions were analyzed by using George Lakoff and Mark Johnson theory. The result of this research shows that all types of metaphor are found in the data, with the structural metaphor as the most frequently used type of metaphor based on Lakoff and Johnson theory. The total number of metaphor found on the whole lyrics are; Structural metaphor 22 data (44%), orientational 12 data (24%) and ontological 16 data (32%). The meaning of metaphor can be easier to understand by using the theory to analyze. Not only in song lyrics, Metaphor can be found in different objects such as poem, speech and other clue. Furthermore this study is expected to be useful information about pragmatics particularly metaphor.en_US
