Code Switching and Code Mixing used by Boy William Video YouTube Channel

Abstract

The study deals with the study on the code switching and code mixing used by boy William video YouTube channel. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. Using code switching and code mixing in society it has been common. It happens in the one of the phenomenon and famous in boy William video YouTube channel. Therefore, this research focused on code switching and code mixing that appear in the boy William video YouTube channel. The writer only analyze the types of code switching and types of code mixing. The objective of this research was to describe the types of code switching and types of code mixing that found in boy William video YouTube channel. The instrument of collecting data is observation. The data of this research is the utterances of boy William in YouTube channel. The data is limited only in types of code switching and types of code mixing. There are 1 people as the subject that the writer found. The sources of data are taken from boy William video YouTube channel where the writer has to focuses on 5 video from many video in boy William YouTube channel that will be analyzed by writers, and the object of this research will be conduct to boy William video YouTube channel. The data is conversation especially in found in video YouTube. Code switching by Poplack divided into three types, they are: intra sentential switching, inter sentential switching and tag switching. Code mixing by theory Muysken divided into three type: insertion, alternation and congruent lexicalization. The result after analyzing the video the writer found 45 data from types of code switching. from intra sentential switching they are 17 data (38%), in inter sentential switching 15 data (33%) and for tag switching found 13 data (29%). for code mixing the writer found 45 data they are 14 data (31%) from insertion, 16 data (36%) from alternation and 15 data (33%) from congruent lexicalization. Therefore, the data found from the boy William YouTube channel that have been analyze are 90 data.
