dc.description.abstract | The writer discusses about the figurative language in song lyrics sung by Imagine Dragons. The aims of this study is the first, to find out the types of figurative language in Imagine Dragons’ song lyrics and the second is to find out the most dominant of figurative language that used in Imagine Dragons’ song lyrics. The writer applied Descriptive Qualitative Research. The data are taken from five song lyrics sung by Imagine Dragons, they are “Bad Liar, Walking The Wire, Thunder, Believer, and Demons”. The writer takes the song lyrics as the data source from website https://lyricfind.com. The data is the song lyrics underlined that contained of the figurative language. The writer analyzes 8 the types of figurative language in 5 song lyrics sung by Imagine Dragons, namely: Simile, Metaphor, Metonymy, Hyperbole, Symbol, Paradox, Irony and Personification. The writer found 37 underlined song lyrics in 5 songs sung by Imagine Dragons that contained of the figurative language as the data of the study, namely: simile 2 song lyrics, metaphor 4 song lyrics, metonymy 1 song lyric, hyperbole 18 song lyrics, symbol 4 song lyrics, paradox 1 song lyric, irony 0, and personification 7 song lyrics. Besides that the writer also analyzed the most dominant of figurative language in 5 song lyrics, they are simile is 5%, metaphor is 11%, metonymy is 3%, hyperbole is 49%, Symbol is 11%, paradox is 3%, irony is 0% and personification is 19%. So, the most dominant from the 8 types of figurative language that the writer analyzed in five song lyrics sung by Imagine Dragons is Hyperbole with 49% often used in in all kinds of literature such as prose or drama and song lyrics and sometimes also used in daily conversations. | en_US |
