dc.description.abstractThis study was focused on the effect of direct writing activity strategy on student skill in writing recount text. The objective of this study was to find out the significant directed writing activity, effect on students‟ skill in writing recount text by using Video Media. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this study was the eight grade students of junior high school in HKBP SIDORAME MEDAN. Two classes was taken as the sample of this research. The class VIII-1 was as the experimental group and the class VIII-2 was the control group. The experimental group was taught by using Directed writing activity strategy, while the control group was taught by using Direct method. The instrument of collecting data was writing test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The mean score of the pre-test in the experimental group is 58 and the post-test is 68,7. The mean score of the pre-test in the control group is 57 and the post-test is 63,3. It is conducted that the mean score of the experimental group is higher than the control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table as the level of significance p=0.05 (2,23>1.734). Based on the data analysis of the study, the result indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that there is the significant effect of using direct writing activity strategy on student skill in writing recount text.en_US
