dc.description.abstract | This research was conducted to analyze the students’ errors on the use of to be as Auxiliary and Linking verb in students’ writing on recount text that was made by eight grade students of SMP Parulian 2 Medan. The students had low ability in grammar. They got difficulty with the use of to be. The purpose of this research was to find the types of error and the dominant types of errors made by the that students made on the use of to be as Auxiliary and Linking verb in writing recount text. This research was conducted based on descriptive qualitative analysis. The subjects of the research were eight grade students of SMP Parulian 2 Medan while the sample was class VIII.1 which consisted of 36 students, but only 20 students could participate in this research. In collecting the data, this research used writing task recount text to identify the students’ errors on the use of to be as Auxiliary and Linking verb in students’ writing on recount text based on surface strategy taxonomy and sources of errors according to Brown’s theory.
The results of the research showed that there were 4 types of errors made by the students. And the dominant types of error that found in this research were misformation. In the use of to be as Auxiliary, the highest two commons errors were misformation with the number of errors 15 items or 40,5% and omission with the number of errors 14 items or 37,8%. The lowest two errors were addition and misordering with each number of errors 4 items or 10,8. In the use of to be as Linking verb, the highest two common errors were also misformation with the number of errors 15 items or 63% and omission with the number of errors 7 items or 29%. The lowest two errors were addition and misordering with each the number of errors 1 items or 4 %. | en_US |
