dc.description.abstractThis thesis is about An Error Analysis of Past Perfect Tense on Students’ Writing Recount Text. The objective of the research is to categorize the types of error in students’ writing recount text in using Past Perfect Tense and the dominant type of error in students’ writing recount text in using Past Perfect Tense. This research was conducted by applying Descriptive Qualitative research. The subject of this research was second semester students of English Department students in Nommensen HKBP University. The researcher took 10 students in getting the data. The instrument of collecting data was writing test. The focus of this research was finding the types of error and dominant type of error that occur in past perfect tense on students’ writing recount text. This research used surface strategy taxonomy method in classifying the types of error. Based on surface strategy taxonomy, there are 4 types of error, namely error of omission , error of addition, error of misformation, and error of misordering. The result of this research showed that there are 22 error on students’ writing recount text. The researcher found error of omission ( 72.27%) with 17 sentences , error of addition (13.64%) with 3 sentences, error of misformation ( 0%) and error of misordering ( 9.09 %) with 2 sentences. The dominant type of error is error of omission ( 72.27%).en_US
