dc.description.abstractThis thesis focused on finding lexical ambiguity and classified the types of lexical ambiguity in reading analytical exposition text.There are two types of lexical ambiguity namely polysemy and homonymy.The purpose of this study was to understand the ability of the students understanding about lexical ambiguity.The subject of this research was on the second grade students at SMAN 10 Medan. In the text “ The Importance of Education” showed there were 6 lexical ambiguity,3 polysemy and 3 homonymy.The research method used descriptive quantitative.The descriptive quantitative was used to understand of the ability in understanding lexical ambiguity in reading analytical exposition of the second grade students at SMAN 10 Medan. The highest students’score in understanding lexical ambiguity was 92 and the lowest score was 25.and the total data of students score of lexical ambiguity is 2,240.their mean score was 64 lower than KKM which is determined by SMAN 10 Medan where KKM is 75. There are 12 students who were able in understanding lexical ambiguity in reading analytical exposition text 34,28% and there are 23 who where unable in understanding lexical ambiguity in reading analytical exposition text 65,72 %.There were 3 students who categorized excellent to very good and there were 9 students who categorized good and 6 students categorized fair and there were 17 students who categorized very poor. The result shows that the second grade students of SMAN 10 Medan are unable in understanding lexical ambiguity in reading “ The Importance of Education “ as example of analytical exposition text.Based on the result the writer make the suggestions this study is a source of valuable knowledge and iformation valuable,the teacher should be creative in teaching english,teacher should motivate her students.en_US
