dc.description.abstractThis thesis is a study about an analysis of Deixis made by the students in writing recount text by the eighth grade students of SMP Methodist 9 Medan. The objectives of the study are to find out the types of Deixis made by the students in writing recount text and to find out the dominantly types of Deixis made by the students in writing recount text. The study uses descriptive qualitative as the research design. The subject of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Methodist 9 Medan which consist of Two classes. The students in VIII-A is as the object of this study. Finally, the result of the study shows there are three types of deixis found in writing recount text by the tenth grade students of SMP Methodist 9 Medan namely, time, place, person. The dominantly types of deixis from the other types of deixis is person deixis with 229 words, in the second place is time deixis with 59 words, in the third is place deixis with 14 words. Person deixis becomes the dominant type in writing recount text because person deixis realized with personal pronoun and the students have more knowledge about personal pronoun and it is easy to connect person deixis to the text that they made. Also in their daily life and daily conversation they always use deixis. This thesis is suggested for the students in English Department and also for English teacher as source of valuable knowledge and information of students’ writing deixis in writing recount text.en_US
