dc.description.abstractThis study focused on finding out the effect of applying Charades Game on students’ vocabulary mastery. The objective of the study is to find out whether or not Charades Game affect on students achievement in vocabulary. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the first year students of SMP 37 Medan. The writer took VIII-A which consists of 20 students as experimental class with used Charades Game and VIII-B which consists of 20 students as control group used conventional method. The population of this study was 40 students which consist of eight classes. The writer took two classes as random sampling to see the effect of charades game in teaching vocabulary. The data were taken by giving vocabulary test which consists of multiple choice and matching. The tests were divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group. The mean score of pre-test in experimental class is 52.9 and the post-test is 76.1.The mean score of pre-test in control group is 51.3 and the post-test is 64.8. It is conducted that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table as the level of significance p=0.05 (8.22>2.042). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is suggested that teachers of English subject to apply Charades Game as an alternative teaching technique to help and enrich vocabulary mastery at eight grade students of Junior High School.en_US
