dc.description.abstractThis thesis deals with Speech act as found in the DVD transcribtion of Mangulosi culture in Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony. The objectives of this study are To find out the type of speech act are use in mangulosi culture Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony and To find out the most dominant type of speech act on expression the utterance found in Mangulosi culture in Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony. The descriptive-qualitative was used in the analysis of the speech act.. the data were collacted from the DVD of Mangulosi Culture in Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony by transcribing them. The data of this study is utterances of Mangulos culture in Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony that contains of speech act. The result showed that there were 42 sentences. The findings indicated that the uttrances of Mangulosi culture in Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony applied six from seven types of speech act based on Charles.W.Kreidler’s theory : assertive utterances, performative utterances, verdictive utterances, expressive utterances, directive utterances, commissive utterances and phatic utterances. The total calculations of Speech act in each type are : assertive utterances (5), performative utterances (12), verdictive utterances (2), expressive utterances (2), directive utterances (16), and phatic utterances (5). The dominant type of speech act in Mangulosi culture in Toba Batak’s wedding ceremony is directive utterances (16). The writer conclude that Toba Batak People in this study had a lot of command utterances to the ulos receiver.en_US
