dc.description.abstractThe Objective of this research is to analyze the transitivity analysis in reading passage of English textbook for junior high school grade nine at SMP Negeri 18 Medan. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was taken from English Textbook for nine grade at SMP Negeri 18 Medan. There are 50 reading passages as source of data of this research. The data was chosen 5 reading passages. The data will be analyzed by observation. To get the result of analyzed reading passages by transitivity system, the writer should finding some sentences in reading passage, breaking the sentences into clause, identifying the clause based on the process, participant and circumstances based on the theory used.After that the writer classifying and determining the dominant type of process, participant and circumstance of each passage. The result of this study showed that Relational process, Actor participant and Circumstances Extent more dominant than others. In transitivity, if the text contain of being and having then it is a part of relational process, if the text contain of an obligatory element and affect by process then it is a part of participant /actor, and if the text found about interrogative forms for how long, how far and where it is a part of circumstances. It can be seen from the data which has been analyzeden_US
