dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to find the improving of students’ speaking ability through communicatioan language teaching method. CLT is a method that stresses language function rather than focusing on grammar and vocabulary. The study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject was XI students of SMA Imelda Medan. The research was conducted in two cycles. The first cycles was two meetings and second cycles was one meeting. The instruments were speaking test, recall, diary notes, and observation sheet. Based on the result speaking test, the mean score of the students in pre-test is 49, cycle 1 is 70.5, and cycle 2 is 85. The percentage of the students’ score in pre-test is 13.33%, cycle one is 70%, and cycle two is is 90%. The percentage range of students score improvment from pre-test to cycle 2 is 76.67%. it means that there is significant improving of the students speaking ability. The qualitative data obtained shows that students’ enjoy the lesson whwn taught by using CLT. In line with the data, it was found that CLT method significantly can improve students’ speaking ability. This method is suggested to be used by teachers or another writer.en_US
