dc.description.abstractThis study focused on finding out the effect of PIE (point-illustration-explanation) strategy on teaching report paragraph writing. Meanwhile, the aim of this study was to find out whether PIE (Point-Illustration-Explanation) strategy significantly affected the students achievement in writing report text. This study was conducted in experimental design. The population of this research was the second year of SMA Negeri 1 Sianjur Mula-mula, which consisted of 180 students in six classes. Thirty students were taken as the sample by using random sample. The sample was divided into two groups. Twenty students as the experimental group was taught by using PIE (point-illustration-explanation) strategy and twenty students as the control group was taught without using PIE (point-illustration-explanation) strategy. The instrument used in this study was a writing test. Then, after analyzing the data, it was found that the value of t-calculated was 4,21 with the degree of freedom (df) 38 at the level of significance p(0.05)= 1.682. It means that t-calculated is higher than t-table (4,21>1.682). Based on the results, the Ha was accepted. It means that PIE (Point-Illustration-Explanation) strategy has a significant effect on students’ achievement in writing report text.en_US
