dc.description.abstractThis study deals with effort of finding the use of cohesion and coherence in writing descriptive text of the eleventh grade at SMA Swasta Pelita Nusantara Lawe Sigala-gala. The objectives of this study wereto find out the types of cohesion and coherence made by the students in writing descriptive text. The research design which was used in this research is descriptive qualitative. There were 25 students as the subject who came from grade XI IPS of SMA Swasta Pelita Nusantara Lawe Sigala-gala . The instrument of collecting data was writing test. The students were assigned to write a descriptive text. The technique of collecting data in this research were askingthe students to write a descriptive text, collecting students’ worksheet and underlining every type of cohesion and coherence from students` writing text.The data were analyzed by collecting the data from students’ worksheet then identifying all the types of cohesion and coherence by underlining the words in students’ worksheet. After that, classifying the types of cohesion and coherence. And the last, tabulating the dominant types of cohesion and coherence made by students in writing descriptive text. After getting the result, The writer found that the dominant types of cohesion is reference with 197 occurrences. Meanwhile, the dominant types of coherence was repeating key noun with total number of occurrences was 136.en_US
