The Effect off Using Pinterest Media on Students’ Ability in Descriptive Writing for Grade X at SMAS GKPI Padang Bulan
Abstract
This study investigates the effect of using Pinterest as a learning medium on the descriptive writing skills of tenth-grade students at SMAS GKPI Padang Bulan. Pinterest, as a visual-based platform, offers an engaging space to help students generate ideas, expand vocabulary, and structure their writing more creatively. A quantitative experimental method was employed, involving two classes: Class X-3 as the experimental group and Class X-1 as the control group, each with 26 students. Both groups took a pre-test to assess their initial writing skills. The experimental group was taught using Pinterest, while the control group used conventional teaching methods.Post-tests were conducted after the treatment to measure progress. Results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group's average score, increasing from 61.38 to 77.23, while the control group's score rose from 54,81 to 67.27. A t-test analysis yielded a t-observed value of 2.557, which exceeded the t-table value of 2.010 at a 0.05 significance level, indicating a statistically significant difference. These findings support the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and demonstrate that using Pinterest positively impacts students' descriptive writing skills. Therefore, Pinterest can be considered an effective and innovative tool for improving writing instruction in senior high schools.
