| dc.description.abstract | This research aims to find out (1) the types of language styles find in the utterances of teachers and student in the class; and (2) the pattern on utterances in teachers and student conversation in the class. This research uses Martin Joos' Theory (2010) and uses the qualitative method as the research design. The data of this study are the Teachers and Student utterances in the class. The data were collected using documentation and recording. The data were analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) which consists of three steps: data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings of this study show that: (1) there are four types of language styles find in the teacher and student utterances in the class. The types are formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. The most frequently used styles consultative style, formal style, and Intimate style, and; (2) teachers at SMAN 2 Tanjung Balai are likely to use Consultative, structured, and academic language, while students might employ a mix of formal and informal language, with varying levels of complexity depending on the context of the conversation. | en_US |
