The Implementation of Genre-Based Approach on Students Writing Ability of Narrative Text at SMA Pembangunan Galang
Abstract
This was classroom action research (CAR) which consisted of two cycles. The procedures of the research were planning, action and observation, and reflection. The researcher collaborated with the English teacher. The subjects of the research were X MIA students of SMA Pembangunan Galang in the academic year of 2023/2024. The class consisted of 30 students. The data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process, and collaborators, giving tests, and taking pictures. The instruments used in this research were observation checklist and scoring rubrics. The result showed that the students’ writing ability especially in narrative text could be improved through the implementation of the Genre based approach. The students’ attitude toward learning English was also improved in a positive way proven by the improvement of their classroom participation. Scores of the students’ writing performance also indicate an improvement in the students’ writing skill. The students’ mean scores gradually increased from 61.3 in the precycle test to 71.83 by the end of Cycle I and to 82.66 by the end of Cycle II.
