THE EFFECT OF DUOLINGO APPLICATION TOWARD STUDENTS LISTENING ACHIEVEMENT OF SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 1 PASARIBUTOBING
Abstract
Thils study focused on filndilng out the effect of alpplyilng Duolilngo Alpplilcaltilon on students lilstenilng alnchilevement. The objectilve of the study ils to filnd out whether Duolilngo Alpplilcaltilon alffects student alchilevement iln lilstenilng. Thils study wals conducted by alppliled experilmentall qualntiltaltilve resealrch. The salmple of the study wals the filrst-yealr students of SMP Negeril 1 Palsalrilbutobilng. The wrilter took VIlIl-Al whilch consilsts of 29 students als aln experilmentall clalss wilth used Duolilngo Alpplilcaltilon alnd VIlIl-B whilch consilsts of 29 students als the control group used the conventilonall method. The populaltilon of thils study wals 58 students whilch consilst of Seventh clalsses. The wrilter took two clalsses als ralndom salmplilng to see the effect of Duolilngo Alpplilcaltilon als al medilal iln tealchilng lilstenilng. The daltal were talken by gilvilng lilstenilng test. The tests were dilvilded ilnto two tests: pre-test alnd post-test for both experilmentall alnd control groups. The mealn score of pre-test iln the experilmentall clalss ils 49,6 alnd the post-test ils 80,5. The mealn score of pre-test iln the control group ils 50,1 alnd the post-test ils 60,5. The result thalt t-callculalted >t- talble als the level of silgnilfilcalnce p =0,05 (18,33 > 1.673). The Allternaltilve hypothesils (Hal) ils alccepted alnd the null hypothesils (Ho) ils rejected. Ilt ils suggested thalt tealchers of Englilsh subject alpply Duolilngo Alplilcaltilon als aln allternaltilve tealchilng medilal to help lilstenilng albillilty alt seventh gralde students of Junilo Hilgh School.
